Meeting
The March meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Plunket Society was held recently, when the president (Mrs A. Rose) presided. Mrs H. C. Cook was welcomed to the meeting as a new member of the committed. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to Mrs A. Bunz. Mrs Bunz had been a member of thd Plunket committee, and convenor of the Karitane Hospital sewing circle for many years.
The success of the Plunket jubilee picnic held by committee members at Hanmer Springs was recorded, and a vote of thanks was passed to the Hanmer Plunket committee for its hospitality. Mr D. Horne was elected as a member of the Karitane Hospital management and finance committee.
Arrangements were made for the Plunket Society’s founders’ day on May 14. Miss B. Helliwell reported for the month:—New baby cases, 296; visits to homes of babies, 1951; visits of babies to rooms, 2963; car mileage incurred for home visiting, 2371; total telephone consultations, 1059.
Miss J. Horner, matron of Karitarie Hospital, reported for the month: mothers admitted, 14 and babies 25; mothers discharged, 11 and babies 23; twins admitted, three sets; premature babies admitted, 14, and discharged 5. The following branches and sub-branches were thanked for their donations to Karitane Hospital:—Hokitika £6O, Church corner. Riccarton, £5 ss, Marshland £lO, Lyttelton £lO 10s, Malvern £5O. Ohoka £5, Opawa-St. Martins £25, Mount Somers £2 15s, St. Albans £25, Woodend-Waikuku £5 ss.
