Waimairi To Spend £2OOO

The Waimairi County Council will spend £2BlO on the development of the reserve at Harakeke and —yds streets in the next year. The major items are £575 for a steel and concrete footbridge. £4OO for clearing and levelling, and £250 for the ahePt piling along the stream bank. Jellle Petke—Tree felling and clearing at Jellle Park was nearing completion. A detailed estimate |of development coats should soon Im available, the county engineer (Mr D. P. McLellan), reported to the council. Building Penalte—Permits for 60 new dwellings, estimated to cost £ 175,471. were granted during February. Permits were also granted for 28 alterations, estimated to cost £5873, and for the construction of a commercial building, valued at £3OOO. Marshland Bead Tip.—On the suggestion of the Medical Officer of Health (Dr. A. Douglas), the council will close the Belfast road gate to the Marshland road rubbish tip, open the Marshland road gate, and control the tipping of rubbish. Fire District.—The whole of the county will be included in the Christchurch Fire Board's extended fire (Lolrict, from April 1. Off-street Parking.—The council's requirements on tne provision of off-street parking at the new Canterbury University site in Creyke road will be brought to the notice of the university. Bet .al Of Hoardings.—All hoardings in the county will have to oe removed by April 30. The Railways Department will again be asked to revise its policy of permitting hoardings on its land.

I rest Rate Increase.—An application will be made to the Local Government Loan's Board tor authority for the council to increase the rate in its share of the unsubscribed portion of the Burnside Road Memorial Highway Loan of £135,000 to five per cent. Of the full loan £91.200 is still unsubscribed.
