WANGANUI RIVER TOURIST TRIPS

Speedboat Built At

Redcliffs

A twin-jet speedboat was launched from the slip of a Christchurch boatbuilder, Mr C. Mahan, at Redcliffs yesterday. It will be used in the tourist trade on the Wanganui river. The boat, an improvement on the successful single-jet boat designed by Mr C. W. F. Hamilton, of Irishman Creek station, was specially designed for use on rivers with strong rapids. Powered by two car engines, the jet boat has a total of 120 horsepower. The maximum speed is 25 m.p.h. with 12 passengers and crew.

The boat has a 21 feet planing hull with an eight feet beam and the hull has been specially reinforced for river travel. It weighs 30 hundredweight. Today the final trials will be held on the Estuary, where the public will have an opportunity of watching the bqAt at work.

The launch has been named the Rangimarie, and will be operated by Mr C. E. S. Davies, of Taumarunui.
