The Vicar-General of the Diocese of Christchurch (the Very Rev. Martin Sullivan) this week instituted the Rev. E. H. Newman as vicar of Leeston and licensed him as acting rural dean of the provisional deanery of Malvern. He also instituted the Rev. J. S. Vincent as vicar of Hinds.

Mr R. T. Alston, secretary of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, and Mr J. D. McBrearty. assistant-manager of the New Zealand Industries Fair, will leave Christchurch today for Auckland to attend the New Zealand Easter Show. On Monday, Mr Alston will attend a meeting ■of manufacturers’ associations' secretaries to discuss import licensing and its effect on manufacturers. He and Mr Mcßrearty will return to Christchurch on Tuesday.

Mr D. J. Whitehead, who has been manager of the Akaroa branch of the Bank of New Zealand since 1952, has been appointed manager at Alexandra. He succeeds Mr A. V. Miller, who has been appointed manager of the branch at Dunedin north. Mr Whßehead will be succeeded at Akaroa by Mr A. J. Bradley, accountant at Takaka since 1953.
