RETAIL MEAT PRICES Beef Dearer In Auckland

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. March 20. Beef will be 3d per lb dearer tn Auckland from Monday next. Pork and lamb, on the other hand, will be 2d a lb cheaper hand, will be 2d per lb cheaper and hogget Id per lb cheaper These changes were decided at a meeting of the Auckland Master Butchers’ Association today The increase in beef prices, an official said, had been forced on the association by the rising cost of fat stock at the saleyards The export schedule of prices nad been raised and had 'iffected the market values all over the country. The reductions in prices of pork, lamb and hogget were due to a drop in the export schedules for these meats. Prices for fat and store cattle have increased considerably at North Island stock sales this week. At Stortford Lodge, Hastings yesterday prime cows made £34 18s 6d to £36 18s 6d. In the middle of March last year, cows: of a similar description were being quoted at £23 Is to £24 18s 6d, with medium sorts at £2O 3s 6d to £22 18s 6d against £2B 8s 6d to £33 3s 6d yesterday.

Extra prime heavy bullocks yesterday made £54 8s 6d. At the corresponding sale last yeai. heavy ox was quoted at £4l 8s 6d. Prime ox yesterday brought £45 8s 6d to £47 18s 6d against values of up to £37 8s 6d last year.

Prime heifers at present are bringing in the vicinity of £35 Last year at this time they were making about £2B.
