Mrs W. W. Averill presided at the first meeting of the year of the Mothers' Union Council recently. The new members of the council were welcomed. A letter from Canon I. L. Richards was read thanking branch members for the many Christmas gifts sent to him for patients at Sunnyside Hospital. It was proposed by the council that the special gift from the Christchurch Diocese to the overseas fund to be presented by Mrs A. K. Warren, the New Zealand representative at the world conference of the Mothers’ Union, should be £5O. The gift will be sent in a finelyworked alms-bag. Many countries will send gifts which will be received by Her Majesty the Queen at a meeting in the Albert Hall, London, on July 10. Members were asked to encourage support for the Mary Field Foundation special films for children in Christchurch every month annual meeting of the North American Club was held recently at Elizabeth House. In his report the president (Mr C. L. Shields) said that the club was in a sound position financially and there had been a considerable increase in membership. The following officers were elected: president, Mr C. L. Shields; vice-president, Mr L. B Burton; secretary, Mrs J. C. Carr; treasurer, Mr R. E. McCown; committee, Mesdames W. C. Rankin, J. Garrett, David King, J. D. Wolfsperger, R. E. McCown, C. L. Shields and W. Thoresby Mr Happi Hill proposed a vote of thanks to the outgoing secretary (Mrs R. V. E. Waldron). Mrs S. Crosier presided at the first meeting of the year of the the Holy Trinity, Avonside, mission circle. The meeting was preceded by an intercession service conducted by the Rev. H. J. Takens.
