LION CUBS’ FIRST OUTING

Photographs Taken At Auckland Zoo (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 20. The four young lion cubs recently born at Auckland Zoo had their first outing and their first photograph taken this afternoon. Not in the least self-conscious, and ignoring the nervous roars of their parents, Norma and Sidney, the cubs rolled around on the grass, growled and posed under the watchful eyes of the keepers. “Although they are too young to be shown publicly yet,” said Mr G. Dean, the acting-director of the zoo, “1 am most anxious that children might have a chance to see them.” When they are old enough the cubs will be taken out of the den at special times and allowed to play in a pen on the zoo lawns. They will be shown like this until they are about three months old. “After that,” said Mr Dean, “they become a little too ferocious.”
