POLAR ROUTE TO FAR EAST
LONDON, March 19. The British Overseas Airwavs Corporation was studying the operational and commercial possibilities of a Polar route to the Far East, the House of Commons was told today. The Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation (Mr Harold Watk inson) said that the corporation had no immediate plans for inaugurating such a route. Mr John Cronin (Labour) had asked what 8.0.A.C. was doing to inaugurate such a service. He urged the Minister to expedite this matter as the Polar route was the shortest to the Far East.
Air France, K.L.M., of Holland, and Lufthansa, of Germany, were shortly inaugurating services on this route.
