AUSTRALIAN GOLD PRODUCTION

Goldmine production in Australia last year was the second highest annual output since the war. Mine production for the year was 1,084,079 fine ounces, a rise of 54,2580 z.
Refinery production of gold created a post-war record at 1,078,419 fine ounces. The value of refined gold for the year was £16,872,458, more than £500,000 higher than in 1956. These figures, released by the Commonwealth Statistician, Mr S. R. Carver, also show that Western Australia continues to be the largest gold producer, with the Northern second.
