RUGBY No Increase In Price Of Season Tickets This Year

There will be no increase in the -rice of season tickets this season and the same number of tickets as last year will be available. This wa s decided at a meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Football Union last evening. "The situation last year was mat we sold tickets for numbers two and four stands and these were sold out. We also had a few in number three stand. I do pot see that we should extend them any further or reduce them,” said Mr H. C. Blazey. He moved that numbers two and four stands he sold as before with a maximum of 50 in number three stand and that these be on sale on April 14, 15, 16 for existing season ticket holders and after April 16 for new applicants. The motion was carried. “In view of the number ol games they have had in the past and the number of games—and

big games—they are going to see. I think an increase in price could be made. I think £2 15s is insufficient," said Mr C. H. McPhail.

*‘l do not think we can altogether justify an increase as the price is a concession to the people who go week after week to the park and we want to retain that ‘hard core.’” said Mr J. O. Hattersley.

Mr McPhail: I am not thinking of driving these people away but we have got to face up to increased costs. ."I feel the price of season tickets should be the same as last year.” said Mr A. K. Johnson, who added that the price could be reviewed next year. ‘The man in the street will see the balance sheet and say this is how they are catching up.” Jdr C. H. Blazey: I think the coming season will be more attractive than last year and as Mr McPhail said costs have gone up.

“Have you got any views on the gate charge? If you thump one you should thump the other,” said Mr F. J. Foley. Mr R. W. Blazey: We are keeping away from that one. Canterbury has accepted a New Zealand trial match to be played in Christchurch on July 30. Messrs R. W. Blazey, H. C. Blazey, Hattersley, W. C. Dailey and C. A. Blazey were appointed the Canterbury delegates to the New Zealand Rugby Union's annual meeting. Mr C. A. Blazey was appointed the resident delegate and was also nominated as the member of the executive of the New Zealand Union. Mr R. W. Blazey was nominated to the New Zealand Rugby Union council.

AMENDMENTS TO RULES Topic For Referees’ Association

At the annual conference of the New Zealand Referees' Association to be held in Christchurch on April 4 the main topic of discussion would be the law book, said Mr S. W. Whiteford at the meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Football Union last evening. When the conference continues on the Saturday morning, the annual meeting of the New Zealand referees association would be held, he said. About 130 delegates are expected to attend the conference and they will represent a large number of unions. “I think there will be a lot of discussion on the interpretation of tne rules,” said Mr Whiteford. Mr H. C. Blazey said that he gathered that the referees will advise the New Zealand Union of the amendments and then the New Zealand Union will circularise the unions. Mr Whiteford: It becomes official when the rules committee of the New Zealand Referees’ Association has passed it on to the New Zealand Union.
