CELEBRATION IN MONACO

Princess Grace arid Prince ‘ Albert, who was born. yesterday, 1 spent a fine night and are in excellent health, palace physi--1 cians said today, according to 1 the American Associated Press. Prince Rainier appeared again with Princess Caroline on the palace balcony this morning and were serenaded by the guitars, mandolins and songs of a Monegasque folk band, the British United Press reported. Dr Emile Hervet, quoted by the American Associated Press, said that Prince Albert was being breast-fed as was his yearold sister. Princess Caroline. Prince Albert’s birth will be registered tomorrow in the throne room of the palace. The Royal Chamberlain will first go into the nursery to determine officially the infant’s sex and afterwards the Prince will be officially inscribed in the Royal archives as Albert Alexandre Louis Pierre, first in line to become the thirty-second Sovereign of Monaco. Fireworks Fireworks flared over Monaco’s gaily-lit harbour last night when citizens and tourists celebrated the birth of a son to Princess Grace. A 101-gun salute boomed across . the harbour, to announce the i news, yesterday and 'flags were t hung out. Church bells pealed along the Riviera from San Remo to Cannes. The crews of seventeen ships , in the harbour dressed their ships and blew sirens and whistles. Tourists joined the crowds ' thronging the palace esplanade and cheered Prince Rainier when . he appeared on the balcony with Princess Caroline in his arms. ' The Prince, born naturally and ; without anaesthetics, is sleeping , in an Empire style cradle and shares Princess Caroline’s , nursery. He will be looked after by , Princess Caroline’s Swiss nurse. His layette, made in France, includes white sets named “Fleuron . Royal,” “Chantilly,” “Doux ‘ Bouquet,” “Reve Bleu,” and . “Melodie.” Others are in pastel colours, ] mostly white and .pink.
