Midnight “Horror Shows”

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, March 14. Midnight “horror shows” at theatres were strongly criticised at a North Melbourne suburban Court yesterday. Mr Irving Plotkin, appearing for Barry Goring, aged 17, one of six youths charged with having behaved offensively about 4 a.m. on Monday, on their way home from a midnight cinema show, said: “My opinion is that the theatres are more to be blamed than these youngsters for putting on 'horror shows’ at midnight.” The police said that the youths had tried to tip over a parked car while they made their way home from the show. The Magistrate (Mr R. Prowse) adjourned the charges for a year. He said: “I would prefer that the theatreowner were brought before the Court and charged instead of these lads.” The police said that the show which the youths had attended had to be stopped because of “mass hysteria.”
