RAWHITI SPORTS PAVILION
Official Opening Today The Rawhiti War Memorial sports pavilion will be officially opened by the Minister of Transport (Mr Mathison) today. Eight years ago, a committee of representatives of local sporting bodies—Rugby, women’s and men’s hockey, athletics, women’s basketball, and cricket clubs—was formed to raise funds for the building. Last year, the committee engaged a building contractor, Mr R. Comfort. Every Saturday morning, bands of voluntary workers worked on the pavilion. In the last few weeks, although the building has not been completed, many New Brighton sporting bodies have made use of the rooms fey meetings. To raise further funds towards the cost of the pavilion, the committee will hold an auction sale at the official opening.
