Midget Championship To J. Alexander

J. Alexander was rewarded for his consistency when he won the six-cylinder midget car championship at the Aranui Speedway on Saturday evening. Alexander’s eight points were gained from two firsts and a second. The four-cylinder championship was won by M. Sloan, also with eight points. In the first race of this series Sloan slipped the field in the first lap and he was never afterwards likely to be headed. In the final race of the series Sloan was the only starter to finish. J. Shaw carried his success of the previous week a‘ stage further when he once again won all four of the T.Q. midget races. This brought Shaw’s winning sequence to 10. In an effortless manner he completely eclipsed his rivals and also twice broke the existing lap record of 21sec. Shaw’s second record-breaking run was made from the long mark of 120 yards in the exceptional time of 20.6 sec. There were several falls in the solo races. L. Houston threw his motor-cycle to the ground to avoid hitting B. Lagrosse, who was lying stunned on the track. A. Thomas had a successful evening with three wins, and B. Savage was again in form. In the Seaside solo handicap Savage’s machine leaned at a dangerous angle as he came out of the bend into the straight, but he made a brilliant save to retain his place.
