STOPPAGES AT MERCER

Conference To Discuss Delays

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 10.

In an effort to stabilise work and prevent disruptions to the Mercer steam power station project, the Auckland Conciliation Commissioner (Mr C. L. Hunter), the president of the Auckland Trades Council (Mr T. E. Skinner), the Secretary of Labour (Mr H. L. Bockett), and representatives of management and of various trade unions will confer in Auckland tomorrow afternoon. The discussion will be aimed at halting stoppages and manage-ment-labour disputes which have hampered work at the station. Work at Mercer was at a standstill this afternoon while the labour force of about 1000 held a stop-work meeting to discuss nonrecognition of job delegates, over which 35 riggers struck last month. The men resumed work after the meeting.
