Mr Krupp’s Visit

Sir, —The capitalist press throughout the world has successfully whitewashed the Krupp empire of death. Let us remember that the Mr Krupp who is visiting New Zealand was convicted as a war criminal. Thanks, however, to the power of big money, his fortunes were restored to him and he served but a fraction of his sentence. Your editorial stresses the importance of trade with Germany. But, surely, Mr Krupp, whose organisation used thousands of slave workers from concentration camps, is hardly the person to speak for the peace-loving and repentant Germans who, of course, are peace-loving and repentant because they were soundly beaten I am shocked and disappointed that our splendid Labour Government has allowed this man to visit New Zealand.— Yours, etc.. CITIZEN. March 10, 1958.

Passes For Pensioners

Sir, —The burden of the age and invalid beneficiary could be humanely lightened if free passes on our local buses were granted to them on application. An annual free railway pass would also be appreciated, especially by those who are separated from relatives and old friends in either or both of our islands. As the aged and infirm, for obvious reasons, invariably avoid peak hour and holiday traffic, they would only be occupying otherwise vacant seats.—Yours, etc., HUMBLE HARRY. March 8, 1958.
