Street Appeals
Sir, —The solution to the above problem seems to be rather a national issue and not a local body one. Might I put forward a suggestion that would rid our whole nation of those methods keeping various organisations before the public. Abolish, by act of Parliament, the rights of any, or all, organisation to collect funds in such a way, and replace it with a national charity tax of say twopence in the pound, and this would ensure that all and sundry would contribute and not the people all the time. However, it’s a passing thought, and our politicians and councillors may as well discuss this matter, as some of the items on their agendas.—Yours, etc., P. L. BASHFORD. March 5, 1958.
