FARM MACHINES ON DISPLAY

Big Exhibition Next Week

It is six years since the Young Farmers’ Club organised a big farm machinery display in Canterbury, but the demonstration which the Christchurch district committee has arranged for next Friday and Saturday is expected to be the biggest held in New Zealand.

Twenty-nine firms have joined in the demonstration. It will be held on the dairy farm of Mr C. Van Asch, Hoon Hay Valley, Halswell. Mr Van Asch has offered seven acres of his land for the use of the working machines and another 20 acres will be available for irrigation displays.

Because of the excellent entries there will be about 100 of the latest machines on show from rotary lawn mowers to the biggest farm implements. Among them will be hay and forage handling machines, ditch cleaners and diggers, stock handling equipment, post hole diggers, market gardening and weed spraying gear and there will also be a section for vintage machines. As far as the land and the season will permit the machines will be operating continuously or in series. > There is an airstrip through the middle-of the farm and during the lunch hours on both days there will be a demonstration of aerial topAessing and work with a helicopter. The committee hopes that the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Skinner, will be able to open the display on Friday morning. On both days the machines will be on show from 11 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

The site is an ideal one and there will be ample parking space on a slope overlooking the machines. The Y.F.C. will signpost the main routes to the farm. These are: from the city, by way of Colombo street and Cashmere road; or from the south and west, along Halswell road, Hendersons road and Cashmere road.
