AMENDMENTS TO MEAT ACT
New Regulations I Gazetted (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 7. Regulations governing the issue of licences for meat pack-ing-houses and prescribing certain standards of sanitation which must be observed in all meat packing-houses, have been gazetted. The regulations, which also provide for new scales of inspection fees for stock slaughtered in slaughterhouses, come into fore- as from April 1 next. In a statement the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Skinner) said the regulations follow the passing of the Meat Amendment Act, 1957, and also make miscellaneous amendments to the Meat Regulations. 1940, in respect of brands and labels. A new regulation makes it a condition of a meat packinghouse licence that meat may be processed for export only if it is derived from stock slaughtered in a meat export slaughterhouse, and is of an approved standard.
