SECOND PARADE OF HOMES

In Christchurch’s second Parade of Homes, which will open tomorrow in Rowan avenue, Aranui, the public will be able to see houses which demonstrate the quality of dwelling generally available. The 15 houses in the display, many of which have already been sold, will show what can be achieved within three price ranges —£2500 to £2999, £3OOO to £3199 and £3200 and above. As well as being able to inspect the builders’ wares the public will be able to see the latest developments in household equipment and its disposition in the home. The Parade of Homes will also serve to display new materials and recent developments in furnishing and decoration. The Parade of Homes has again been arranged by a committee representing the State and the city as well as trade organisations. This supplement to “The Press” reviews some modern practices in building and furnishing both low-cost homes and more expensive anti larger dwellings. Town planning as it will affect Christchurch and the results of recent thinking by town planners, architects and the Government on the growing problem of sprawling suburbs in New Zealand cities are also reviewed in this supplement.
