Income Tax Rebate
Sir, —One point “Facts” did not refer to in his tirade against the Labour Party offer of £lOO tax rebate. He did not refer to the fact that the Labour offer wiped out all tax under £lOO, but the National offer only wiped out 25 per cent. For instance, a working man is assessed for £2O. Under National he would receive a re bate of only £5 and still had to; pay £l5. The Labour offer wiped out the whole £2O. It is easier for the man on the higher income to pay the balance over the £lOO rebate than the working man to pay £l5. The Labour offer was in strict line with the socialist principle of a more equitable distribution of goods and services.—Yours, etc., March 5, 1958. A.F.P.
