Christ’s Beats Nelson A£t ®, r dismissing the tail-enders In the Nelson College second innings cheaply a few minutes after tea, Christ’s College decisively won the annual inter-collegiate match at the Christ s College ground yesterday. Nelson College was all out for 123 after making 126 in its first innings the previous day. Christ’s College continued its overnight score of 234 for four wickets yesterday morning, and declared with 270 for nine wickets. The solid partnershin of 91 between R. A. Latham (57) and G. H. Pickering (74) set the foundation for the good score.

The best of the others were P Andrews, the opening batsman, who scored 31, and the middle batsman, J. H. L. Neville, who made 45. K Taylor bowled well for Nelson to take four wickets for 52.

Apart from a patient innings by Best. the Nelson College batsmen failed in their second innings. Best scored well with drives and stayed at the crease for 140 minutes for his 69 before he was out leg before wicket 4o G. H. Pickering. Two right-hand off-spinners. N. G. Clark and Latham, were the most successful Christ’s College bowlers. Each took three wickets. '

The Christ’s College fielding was generally good, and the returns to the wicket were accurate. One smart piece of fielding brought a run-out near the end of the Nelson innings. JUNIOR CUP FINAL

North Canterbury And Suburban Scoring was high on the first day of the Junior Cup final between North Canterbury and Suburban at Dudley Park, Rangiora, yesterday. In conditions which were ideal throughout the day, 516 runs were scored. At stumps. North Canterbury, with two wickets in hand, had a lead of 28 runs on Suburban’s first innings score of 244. Winning the toss, Suburban batted first. D. Tanner. who opened the innings, made a very patient 54 before he was caught off the bowling of R. Pulley. A solid partnership by J. Tucker and R. Hooper mid-way through the innings changed the score from a respectable one to a good one. TuCker (55) and Hooper (49) both batted really well and put on 74 for the sixth wicket.

C. Reid was the most successful North Canterbury bowler, taking three wickets for 53 runs.

North Canterbury scored its 272 in 195 minutes, and a feature of the innings was the fine knock by R. Capstick, who scored 91. Included in his score were 15 boundary shots. He was well supported by C. Reid, who was undefeated at stumps with 77, which included 10 fours. L. Carney also contributed a forceful 43. A. Joy secured the best bowling figures with his medium-fast deliveries, and at the close of play had taken five wickets for 68 runs. The match will be concluded today. Scores were:—
