Obituary MR B. G. DALGETY
Mr Burnett Gonnerman Dalgety, a grandson of the founder of the stock firm of Dalgety and Company, Ltd., and a farmer at Lyndhurst, near Methven, for 20 years before his retirement three years ago, died recently at Ashburton. He was 58. Mr Dalgety began farming at Mount Hilton, Hawarden, and owned a farm at Tai Tapu for nine years.
He was the son of Mr Charles Gonnerman Dalgety, of “Waitekere,” Marshland, where he was born. Educated at the Waihi Preparatory School and Christ’s College, he represented the college at Rugby football in 1918 and cricket in 1919. After leaving school he took a course at Canterbury Agricultural College, and then farmed at Mount Hilton. He was active in the Hawarden Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and held executive positions. He was also a director of the Hawarden Saleyards Company.
In 1924 and 1932 Mr Dalgety visited Britain. His interests included golf, shooting, dog trials, and horse racing. For many years he was a member of the Christchurch Golf Club.
Mr Dalgety is survived by his wife.
