CHILDREN KEPT FROM SCHOOL
Dispute Over Bus Route (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 17. Thirty-four children of the Auroa School did not go to school today. Their parents intend to keep them at home until the school bus is put back on its old route. The old route was cut by a mile and a half, along which 34 children live, but the parents say they have received no explanation for the decision. Last Tuesday, an inspector of the Taranaki Education Board visited the school and examined the bus list, a resident in the area said. The next thing the parents knew was a notice from the headmaster saying that the route along Taikatu road had been curtailed by a mile and a half, making it necessary for children to walk that distance to catch the bus.
