JENNIFER STREET RESERVE

CityTouncil Plans Development Development of the Jennifer Street reserve, off Wairakei road, is being considered by the Christchurch City Council It will ask the Commissioner of Crown Lands for money to develop a children’s playground and also for assistance in the future development of the whole reserve.

The site was abdlit 12 acres in an area rapidly becoming densely populated, the reserves committee said, and consideration should be given to its development. Unfortunately the land was very uneven and low-lying and would require a great amount of work. The estimated cost of development was £8123, including £lO3O for the children’s playground. The committee presented a plan to provide for Rugby and soccer grounds, with a cricket table between them, and allowing space later for bowls and tennis. The children’s playground site of about one acre had been chosen with access from Jennifer street, Torquay place, and Manor place, preserving some isolation from the main playing fields. A caretaker’s house had been sited on an area unsuitable for other purposes, but having the advantage of oversight of the children’s playground.

The reserves committee suggested that this playground oc developed this year and that the other work, including the house, ahould be undertaken within the Bext few years.
