CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

Gentry On Way To Adelaide (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) ADELAIDE. Feb. 17. The four-year-old New Zealand pacer, Gentry, a candidate for the i Inter-Dominion Championship next month, left Sydney by float for Adelaide during the week-end. Present indications are that Gentry will clash with two other New Zealand pacers, Caduceus and False Step, and with the Australian stars. Fettle and Radiant Venture, in the Luzon Free-for-All at Wayville next Saturday. Gentry, off 24 yards, faces a big task in the championships, which begin at Wayville on March 1. The Inter-Dominion has proved too much for many good four-year-olds, including Ribands, Soangetaha, Caduceus, and Beau Don. Fettle, the main New South Wales hope in the championship, could become one of the hottest favourites on record for the title if he wins the Luzon Free-for-all on Saturday. Fettle is favourite for the big race at less than each way odds, but has eased half a point in the last week following support for other acceptors. The Luzon could prove a first-class guide to the InterDominion. Gentry has a point, but Sibelia (New South Wales) and Taminga (South Australia) have shortened two and four points respectively for their wins at the weekend. Taminga has displaced Aachen as second favourite among the South Australian team, but Aachen’s price remains unchanged. False Step eased most, of the fancied runners, when he drifted six points to share the seventh line of favouritism with Aachen. Caduceus continues to drift, and is also on the seventh line at a price two points longer than available about him a week ago.
