COPERNICUS IN FORM
Jackson Stakes At Wanganui “The Pre**' Special Service WELLINGTON, February 17. Though the fields for the second day of the Wanganui Jockey Club’s summer meeting tomorrow are not as big as those listed ,for the opening day on Saturday, the quality is well up to standard, and interest will be added to the racing by the appearance of several newcomers. The feature event is the Jackson Stakes, run over a mile at weight-for-age. After his strong run for fourth in the open sprint on Saturday, Copernicus deserves respect. He should be tested, however, by Supertax, Gibraltar and Lorica. The double is on the Earle Handicap and the Campbell Handicap. Hard Aport, stablemate of Copernicus, is well placed in the first leg, and has the chance to gain his first win in the higher grade. Betting is likely to be well spread in the second leg, but Nicotian raced like an improver for third on the opening day. Though there was a light drizzle today it will take much more rain to affect the track, which should provide perfect going. Riding engagements include:— C. A. Bo wry: Gibraltar, Lion, Gold Pin. W. A.
