Dog Finds Injured Man, And Save? Second Life
(New Zealand Press Association!
AUCKDAND, February 17. Skipper, an English setter dog, of 10 Rarangi road, saved a life yesterday at St. Heliers for the second time in two years. He found Mr William Marbeck, aged 77, of 91 St. Heliers Bay road, who had fallen at the foot of the cliff skirting the bay and had been lying in the wet sand for more than half an hour. Mr Marbeck is ‘‘very ill” in Green Dane Hospital suffering from exposure, but he is expected to recover. Skipper, a big white dog, stopped suddenly and pointed as Mr
D. E. Cavanagh, whose nine-year-old son, Peter, owns Skipper, was walking him around the bay. Mr Marbeck had slipped on a ledge and fallen six feet. He was hidden from the beach by a jutting line of rock. Mr Cavanagh investigated, and Mr Marbeck was soon in a St. John ambulance on his way to hospital. About two years ago, Skipper found a young woman lying on the other side of the St. Heliers Bay cliffs toward Karaka Bay. This woman had fallen 70 feet down the cliff in her pyjamas about 2 a.m. and was found by Skipper seven hours later.
