HEAVY RAIN IN WAIKATO
Danger Of Facial Eczema
(New Zealand Press Association) HAMIDTON, February 17.
Continuous rain which began in the Waikato early this morning caused minor flooding throughout the Waikato. Hamilton was particularly affected, and water seeped into many shops and offices. There was an inch and a half of rain between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. and another inch between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Storm water drains could not cope with the flow, and city streets were soon covered with a foot of water.
While sheepfarmers were apprehensive about the danger of facial eczema because of the change in the weather, Waikato dairy farmers welcomed the rain. It should do much to revive the parched pastures and halt the steep decline in dairy production. Facial eczema warning committees have recommended farmers to shut up stock immediately. The course usually followed is to confine stock in small areas where water is available. Hay should be fed to the stock after the first day or two.
