N.Z. VISIT BY PRINCESS

Mr Nash’s Comment (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 17. A hope that Princess Margaret will visit New Zealand next year was expressed by the Prime Minister (Mr Nash) * this afternoon. Mr Nash said that the Princess was welcome to- visit New Zealand at any time. As the Queen Mother’s visit had just ended, possibly it would be better if the visit by Princess Margaret occurred next year rather than this, he said. The Prime Minister said that he had had no formal discussions with the Queen Mother about a visit by the Princess. To date, no official Invitation had been sent from the New Zealand Government. Mr Nash made it clear that the invitation extended in general terms by the former Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) was fully endorsed by the present Government. Among those associated with the recent tour of the Queen Mother, the opinion has been freely expressed that Princess Margaret will visit 'New Zealand within 12 months. It has been suggested that her visit should not clash with Christmas, but should be next November or March, 1959.
