ORDER OF MERIT OF COUNTRIES
New Zealand Placed Last (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 15. Australia’s victory over South Africa in the current test series leaves them undisputed contenders with England for the title of top cricketing country of the moment. The difficult task of arranging the other cricketing countries in order of merit has been attempted by the sports columnist of a London newspaper. The order he suggests is: England 1, Australia 2, South Africa 3, West Indies 4, Pakistan '5, India 6, and New Zealand 7.
Norman Preston, the editor ot “Wisden,” said, when asked for his opinion, that England was top, with Australia second. ’’There is no doubt that these two stand far above all the rest.” he said.
England has not been beaten in a test series since the 1950-51 season in Australia.
