FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT

Situation: An anti-cyclone centred north-east of New Zealand is moving away and a trough of low pressure is advancing- eastwards across the south Tasman Sea. Forecast:— Canterbury: Fresh north-west winds turning to moderate south-westerlies late today; rain in the alps, but weather elsewhere fair and warm. Outlook: mainly fair. West Coast: Northerlies, becoming fresh; weather becoming overcast, with rain spreading from the southtemperatures mild. Outlook: occasional showers. Nelson and Marlborough: Moderate northerly winds becoming fresh or strong in the Sounds area; weather mainly fair, but some scattered drizzle or rain tonight about the Sounds; temperatures mild. Outlook: rain at first but weather clearing gradually.
