Effect Of Message To Congress (N.Z. Press Association —Copi/right) NEW YORK, January 20. The stock market advanced today as President Eisenhower’s economic message was delivered to Congress. After early irregularity the market firmed before the Presidential report It maintained its advances after the message was delivered. Key stocks gained fractions to about one dollar but there were some rises running to two dollars and three dollars. Trading was fairly active. Steels, aircraft* missiles and oils ware among the leading groups.

The first large consignments of new season's apples should be released through the Apple and Pear Board in a fortnight’s time. At present there are limited impplies of early varieties but the first big line will be Gravensteins and then Cox's Orange. Mainly through indifferent growing weather, the season is running about two weeks late this year. Commercial Banking COj—The Commercial Banking Co. of Sydney, Ltd., is paying a steady interim dividend of Wz per cent, on January 30. Total payment for the year ended June 30 last was 9 per cent.
