Prime Ministers’ Discussions
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 21. New Zealand’s Prime Minister (Mr Nash) had an unscheduled conference with the British Prime Minister (Mr Macmillan) last night until close on midnight. The two men conferred for several hours after a private dinner party. This private talk is believed to be a preliminary to important discussions on New ZealandUnited Kingdom economic and defence ties to be held in Wellington on Thursday and Friday. The talks went on in spite of Mr Macmillan’s severe cold and high temperature, which kept him aboard his aeroplane at Australian stopping points and limited his newspaper conference after his arrival at Whenuapai yesterday.
Officials today could give no hint on the informal agenda except to say: “They talked shop and it must have been important.”
