PRINCE LEARNS TO SHOOT
Practice With Historic Gun
(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 19. Prince Charles is learning to shoot with a gun owned by four Kings, the "Sunday Dispatch” says today.
The newspaper’s diarist says the weapon, called "Old Thunderer,” is a light-weight, singlebarrelled muzzleloader, at least 80 years old. "As boys, four Kings mastered the art of shooting in varying degree with early practice on ‘Old Thunderer,’ ” says the diarist. "They were King Edward VII, King George V., King Edward VIII, and King George VI.” According to the diarist, the Queen insists that anyone shooting game on her 20,000-acre Sandringham estate must be an experienced shot.
"Her idea is that she doesn’t want bird£ maimed and left alive So until you can shoot to kill you don’t shoot at Sandringham,” he says.
"As a result Prince Charles is confining his efforts with ‘Old Thunderer’ to carefully-super vised practice at a target set up by his father.”
