Theatre Damaged By Fire
(New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 20.
A fire in the King’s Theatre. Taumarunui, at 1 p.m. today destroyed the wide-vision screen, valued at £4OO, and caused several hundreds of pounds worth of other damage. Prompt action by the Taumarunui Fire Brigade saved the theatre from destruction.
The outbreak is thought to have been caused by sparks from a rub bish fire at the back of the theatre. The fire started beneath the stage, spread to the drapes and then to building paper in the ceiling. The large screen, which was of fireproof material, melted into a glutinous mass.
