JOHN KONRADS’S RECORDS
“Sustained Brilliance” (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) MELBOURNE, January 20.
John Konrads’s six'world swimming records in eight days was without parallel in world swimming history, the “Melbourne Herald’s” swimming writer, Ken Knox, said today. John Marshall once broke three world records in the same day and Johnny Weismuller four in two days, but no other swimmer had ever showed the sustained brilliance of Konrads for a whole week. Knox said.
But Konrads still had a long way to go to equal John Marshall's 15 world records in four months. Konrads would attempt the world 1650-yard record in Melbourne next month at the Australian championships, Knox said. Altogether, Australian swimmers have broken 11 world records so far in 1958. The records have fallen to John Konrads (six). Ilfa Konrads (two), John Monckton (two), and Brian Wilkinson (1).
