SCHOOL MEDICAL OFFICER
British Doctor In Christchurch
Dr. J. M. Holden, who arrived from Britain last month, has begun his work as the Health Department’s school medical officer at the Christchurch district health office. Dr. Holden, who is 30, graduated from Guy’s Hospital, London, and nas since practised privately in Britain and been a member of the Royal Army Medical Corps in Germany, where he was medical officer for British service families. Dr. Holden also holds a Diploma of Public Health. In the Christchurch health district he will supervise the health of school and pre-school children, working with the public health nurses. Dr. Holden came to New Zealand with his wife and 20-month-old daughter. Mrs Holden’s parents are Mr and Mrs L. C. Hay, of Riccarton.
Notifiable Diseases Five cases of food poisoning were among the notifiable diseases reported In the Christchurch health district for the week, ended last Saturday. There were no deaths. Other diseases notified were three cases of Infective hepatitis, one of tuberculosis and one of pemphigus neonatorum. No diseases were notified in Greymouth.
