A.T.C. OFFICERS PROMOTED
City And Rangiora Squadrons
Flight Lieutenant R. L. Woodfield, of Papanui, has been promoted to the rank of squadron leader, the Royal New Zealand Air Force announced yesterday. Squadron Leader Woodfield has been officer commanding the No. 17 Air Training Corps Squadron in Christchurch for the last 11 years. He joined the Royal New . Zealand Air Force in 1940. and after training as an observer became a corps instructor. He was commissioned in 1948 and awarded the British Empire Medal for meritorious services during World War 11. During his time as commanding officer of the Christchurch squadron, the unit twice won the Efficiency Trophy which is open to competition by all units in New Zealand. Bangiera Officer The promotion of Flying Officer H. A. Foster,. of Shirley, to the rank of flight lieutenant has also been announced. Flight Lieutenant Foster is second in command of No. 37 (Rangiora) Squadron of the Air Training Corps. He joined the corps in 1942 as a member of the Christ's College unit and transferred to the Christchurch City squadron two years later. Flight Lieutenant Foster qualified as a pilot with the Canterbury Aero Club under the air training corps flying scheme and was commissioned in the corps In 1950.
