Radio Engineering
Radio engineering and radio Servicing are two separate branches of the radio trade, and boys may be apprenticed to one or other of these branches.
The engineer works in a factory manufacturing radio sets, tele- ? vision, radar, radio, and other Y electrical communication equipment
The serviceman is employed by • firm generally dealing direct With the public and undertaking the repair of radios and other electrical apparatus. Both must be trained in the repair of other •Misehold electrical appliances. The apprentice in either branch
is exp’ected to pass his trade examinations which lead to limited registration under the Electricians’ Registration Act. Registration must be obtained within two years of the completion of an apprenticeship or he must leave the trade. Two years’ post-primary education with a satisfactory standard in English and mathematics in .a fourth or higher form are needed. Other useful subjects are electricity, physics, and technical drawing. The apprentice must be patient, able to work with small and intricate assemblies, and to follow complex wiring diagrams.
