Advantages of Business Machine Training
The skilful handling of figures is vital in the business world. As businesses grow, more and more operations are done by modern and efficient machines. And girls who are trained to use these machines are finding successful careers in the business world.
Business machine training not only leads to better jobs but it means an immediate increase in pay.
Last year, about 150 girls were taught the skills of operating modern business machines—calculators, billing machines, type-
writer accounting, bank bookkeeping and commercial bookkeeping machines—at the Burroughs Training Centre in Christchurch. Their courses were held during normal business hours at the expense of their employers. Their training made them valuable members of the staff in their offices, and their wages increased at least 7s 6d a week. Some mastered the skills they required in a few days. Other courses on the bigger and more complicated machines were spread over 12 weeks. In their hands was placed the responsibility of payments analyses, cash and ledger records, stock records and wages. In some offices they will use their machines for P-A.Y.E. tax calculations. Emergencies One of the Burroughs instructors exolained that this meant that a girl who wanted to succeed as an operator and assume these responsibilities must not only have a liking for figures but must be able to remain calm should things go wrong The skilled business machine operator would find opportunities in business fully equal to the better known openings for typists and Shorthand writers.
A girl who can efficiently operate a widely used type of machine can find good jobs anywhere in the world and the un-, derstanding of the how and why of the figures of a business often leads to advancement to top jobs. Offices which use accounting machines are usually large and offer pleasant working conditions, and the number of businesses which are becoming mechanised is constantly increasing. The demand for operators is assured.
