EXCHANGE OF NEW YEAR MESSAGES
Dr. Evatt Says “Important” (Rec. 7 p.m.) CANBERRA, Jaß. 7. Commenting on the exchange at New Year message* by th* Bus* sian leaders and the Prime Minister (Mr Menzies) the Leader of the Opposition (Dr. Evatt) tonight said: “These messages are important.
“In themselves they make some small contribution towards the objectives of lessening world tension, taking positive action towards disarmament and to reducing a very wide area of disagreement caused by the cold war. “The truth is, the time has come for action, not vague end purely negative pronouncements.” Dr. Evatt said the Australian Labour Party would do as much as it could to bring about positive proposals leading to talks atoned at reaching a real disarmtmeut agreement and at ending the cold war.
The mental patient who escaped from Sunnyside Hospital on Tuseday evening was found wandering in the south-eastern part o£ the city yesterday afternoon. H« was reported to be in good health.. He was taken back to the hospital.
