CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES
Mr R. A. Keeling Nominated
(New Zealana Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 9.
Mr R. A. Keeling, M.P. for Gisborne, is the Government’s nominee for Chairman of Committees of New Zealand’s thirtysecond Parliament. When Parliament meets on January 21, Mr Keeling will be elected to the position. Mr J. H. L. May (Onslow) has been appointed Senior Government Whip and Mr R. Macdonald (Ponsonby) has been appointed Junior Government Whip. Mr E. J. Keating (Hastings) has been appointed secretary of the Parliamentary Labour Party. These names were announced by,the Prime Minister (Mr Nash) when the party caucus adjourned shortly after 1 pjn. today for the midday break.
Mr Nash said that the former Senior Whip (Mr J. B. F. Cotterill, member for Wanganui) had not sought appointment. The Prime Minister added that the caucus this afternoon would record motions of. thanks to Mr Cotterill and the former Junior Whip (Mr J. Mathison) and also the former secretary of the Parliamentary Labour Party (Mr H. G. R. Mason). Mr Cotterill is now an ordinary member and Messrs Mathison and Mason are Ministers.
