QUEEN MOTHER’S ARRIVAL
Plane To Land At Ohakea /New Zea/ana Pres* Association > WELLINGTON, Jan. 8. A change has been made in the tour arrangements for Her Majesty the Queen Mother, and her arrival at Auckland will be slightly delayed. Her aircraft will now land at Ohakea, and Her Majesty will transfer to a smaller plane, which will then take off for Whenuapai. The other arrangements made for Her Majesty’s arrival will stand, except that the welcome will now take place between 5 p.m. and 6 pan. on February 1, instead of 3 p.m. as originally planned. Announcing this change today, the Prime Minister (Mr Nash) said that the British Overseas Airways Corporation had advised the New Zealand Civil Aviation Administration of the over-all loaded weight of the DC-7C aircraft in which Her Majesty will arrive in New Zealand. The New Zealand authorities had decided that it would be safer for the aircraft to land at Ohakea than at Whenuapai. “The Queen Mother and her party will immediately change to a Royal New Zealand Air Force Dakota for the flight to Auckland,” said the Prime Minister.
“The Royal party will be met at Ohakea by the director of the Royal tour (Mr A. G. Harper), who will accompany Her Majesty to Whenuapai. The programme will go on as arranged, except that it may start between two and three hours later than oriataally intended.” A* Whenuapai.
