MAN IN ROCKET REPORTS
Science Fiction Film Origin
BONN, January 7.
The deputy-director of the Soviet news agency Tass told the Moscow correspondent of the West German news agency D.P.A. today that Tass knew nothing about Russia launching a manned rocket. The deputy-director said it was completely incomprehensible to him how Western agencies had obtained such a report Officials in Moscow chuckled today at the rumours, which said that a Russian spaceman had travelled 186 miles in a rocket and had been parachuted safely back to earth.
But they neither confirmed nor denied the story—now believed to have originated in a science fiction film, “The Road to Interstellar Space,” being shown in Moscow.
They gave the impression that they were agreeably surprised by this free Western boost to Soviet technical skill.
