MACMILLAN’S TOUR
Warm Welcome Included (Rec. 9 p.m.) NEW DELHI, Jan. 8. The British Prime Minister (Mr Macmillan) was warmly greeted when he arrived in New Delhi today at the start of his Commonwealth tour. He was welcomed by India’s Prime Minister (Mr Nehru) and other leaders. Mr Macmillan will stay in New Delhi for four days. Mr Macmillan and Mr Nehru drove through streets bedecked with Union Jacks to the Indian Prime Minister’s residence, where he and Lady Dorothy Macmillan will stay. It is considered likely that Mr Macmillan and President Soekarno of Indonesia, who arrived yesterday, will meet, although no arrangements have been made. About 2000 people, including schoolchildren with garlands of marigolds and several hundred British residents, greeted Mr Macmillan at the airport. Great interest has been aroused in Mr Macmillan’s talks in New Delhi in view of his suggestion of a non-aggression pact between Russia and the West.
