Cattle Live Only On Wheat
(N2. Pren Amdatlon—Copvtight) January 8. Cattle can be kept alive on a diet of wheat, according to a recent investigation by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation. The finding is expected to be a valuable guide to stockowners in the present dry spell. For the investigation, 18-month-old Hereford steers were fed for 20 weeks on a ration of wheaten grain and 1 per cent ground limestone.
A. C.S.T.R.O. statement issued last night said that the steers lost an average of 1591 b each over the 20 weeks. But all remained in good health.
