DECORATION OF STREETS
Wellington Plans For Royal Visit

WELLINGTON, January 8.
The Wellington City Council will decorate the main streets between Courtenay Place and Government House in addition to the Civic Block and other Corporation buildings for the visit of the Queen Mother to Wellington from February 6 to 10. This was decided by a meeting of the council’s Royal Tour committee. The streets that win be decorated by the council win be Kent and Cambridge terraces and Dufferin street and other buildings held by the council, such as King’s Chambers and Bowen House. This work win be done by the City Engineer’s Department The Mayor (Mr F. J. Kitts) has expressed the wish that commercial houses, shops and office buildings win be suitably decorated by the owners of the buildings. He also emphasised the need for decorating those buildings situated on the routes which the Queen Mother will use on her way to the various civic and Government functions and also to Church on Sunday, February 9. The routes that will be used will be lit by the Electricity Department and the Town Han and Corporation buildings win be floodlit, but Mr Kitts also appealed to commercial houses and shops lining those routes also to be welltit. Mr Kitts suggested that flags and bunting would be most effective in forming a basis for decorations. If business houses have difficulty in obtaining sufficient suitable material for decorations, the mayor has suggested that they communicate with the City Engineer’s Department. which has a limited supply available.
