RESTRICTIONS ON IMPORTS
“Confusioii At NJ& House'’ ; • • fStfceioi Correspondent * (Rec. 7 pan.) LONDON, Jan. *. Some confusion seems to exist, not only among British exporteie and representatives of New Zealand importing firms in Britain but also at New Zealand House, over details of the new importing licencing schedule. Because of this firms with goods not shipped to New Zealand before January 1 are being advised to apply to Wellington for import licences for all outstanding orders. It is expected to be two to three months before they know whan they stand with future allocations. Since it was normal practice tor goods to be ordered six to nine months ahead, it is presumed that there will either have to be some cancellations or that shipment at goods may in some cases have to be spread over the next two yean. One comment was: “It is bsck to 1938. Mr Nash has taken full control of all imports and a licence will be required for everything. In the long run, it means the New Zealand public have to pay higher prices for most of their purchases.”
