SUBMARINE VOLCANO IN THE AZORES.-TOP: The small volcanic island which has risen from the sea about 300 yards from Fayal Island, in the Azores. The submarine eruption began on September 27 last. From a mound of ashes which disappeared into the sea, the volcano has built itself up into an island and become consolidated. Smoke is seen belching from the lower of the two craters. BOTTOM: Abandoned homes on Fayal Island in range of the volcano.
